Bubbly City: A Playful Script Font That Elevates Web Typography

Choosing the Right Typeface for a Boutique Coaching Website

While working on a new coaching website for a creative entrepreneur, I found myself evaluating fonts that could reflect both professionalism and personality. The brand voice was warm, empowering, and slightly whimsical—so I needed a typeface that could carry that tone without sacrificing readability. That’s when I came across Bubbly City, a duo font combining script and display styles.

First Impressions: Testing Bubbly City in the Hero Section

I dropped the display version of Bubbly City into the hero headline, overlaying it on a soft pastel background. The contrast was immediate—its rounded, bouncy letterforms gave the layout a youthful, energetic feel. The script version, with its flowing ligatures and soft curves, felt perfect for accent text and logo treatments.

Visual Style and Digital Appeal

Bubbly City isn’t your typical serif or sans serif font. It’s a modern script with a touch of whimsy, designed to catch attention without overwhelming the layout. The display version adds a bold, clean presence, while the script style brings a hand-crafted warmth. Together, they offer flexibility for both headers and decorative elements.

What stood out during testing was how well the font performed in different contexts—whether as a logo, a call-to-action button, or a section heading. It didn’t feel out of place on a digital interface, which is rare for more decorative fonts.

Where Bubbly City Shines Online

This font works best in short bursts of text where visual impact matters most. I used it in the hero headline, the main CTA button, and a few key section titles. Here are some of the digital use cases where Bubbly City truly came to life:

Readability and User Experience

One of the first things I checked was readability—especially on mobile. While Bubbly City isn’t ideal for long paragraphs, it worked beautifully as a header font. On smaller screens, I made sure to use it sparingly and at larger font sizes to maintain legibility.

When overlaying it on images or dark backgrounds, I adjusted the letter spacing and added a light text shadow to ensure contrast. It’s important to remember that decorative fonts can impact scanning behavior, so using them in high-priority, short-text areas is key to maintaining user engagement.

Font Pairing for a Balanced Layout

To keep the design grounded, I paired Bubbly City with a clean, modern sans serif for body text and subheadings. This contrast helped establish a strong visual hierarchy: the script font drew attention, while the sans serif kept the content easy to digest.

For more editorial-style layouts, pairing it with a serif font like Georgia or a soft serif like Merriweather can create a more refined, magazine-like feel. The key is to let Bubbly City be the standout while supporting it with simpler, more functional typefaces.

Technical Considerations for Web Use

Before finalizing, I checked the font files included in the package. Bubbly City offered multiple webfont formats (WOFF, TTF), which made it easy to implement via CSS. I also looked for alternates and stylistic sets to add variation when needed.

Since the site was for a client, I made sure the license allowed for commercial use and web embedding. It’s always important to verify font licensing, especially when delivering design assets or templates to clients.

Real-World Examples in Action

I used Bubbly City across several key areas of the coaching website:

  1. Homepage Hero – The display version as the main headline over a soft gradient background.
  2. Brand Logo – The script version in a custom logomark to add a personal touch.
  3. Course Highlights – Short phrases in Bubbly City helped break up content and guide the eye.
  4. Email Headers – Used in branded email templates for a cohesive visual identity.
  5. Social Media Templates – Helped maintain brand consistency across Instagram stories and Pinterest pins.

In each case, the font added a layer of warmth and personality that aligned with the brand’s voice—without compromising usability.

Final Notes: When to Use Bubbly City

If you’re designing a boutique online store, a creative portfolio, a course landing page, or a personal coaching site, Bubbly City can be a powerful asset. It’s especially effective when you want to:

Just remember to use it strategically—headers, short phrases, and logo text are where it shines brightest. Pair it with a simple, legible font to maintain balance and ensure your content remains easy to scan and understand.

Wrapping Up the Design Process

Choosing the right font can make or break a digital brand experience. Bubbly City brought a level of charm and distinctiveness to the coaching website that helped it stand out in a sea of minimal, overused typefaces. It reminded me that typography isn’t just about legibility—it’s also about emotion, tone, and connection.

As a designer, I appreciate tools that help bring a brand’s personality to life while still supporting usability. Bubbly City is one of those rare fonts that does both—making it a worthy addition to any creative digital project.
